I paid a down payment of $500 (non-refundable) over the phone for a banquet room. When I went to see the room, I hated it and cancelled. Leaving with the contract in hand. Months later, exactly 13 days before the wedding they called us to start planning. We told them we cancelled in person. They said we violated the contract and owe the half of the entire cost. Help? We did not submit the contract. Do we still owe?
Answer:
If you didn't sign there is no contract. In fact I would try to get the deposit back.
Generally not liable for a contract you didn't sign. But.
Did you take all the copies of the contract or is the contract not signed? Also, did they record your phone conversation agreeing to the arrangement?
Also, what terms are in the written contract?
nope! you don't owe crap. They were already covered with your $500 non-refundable deposit. Unless you signed the contract, and gave it to them, the agreement is null and void.
