You definately need to make a claim with Bank of America regarding this. Have them forward you to their fraud department and file a claim concerning your account. Those NSF fees will keep getting larger and larger if it's not dealt with accordingly. There are federal regulations that require an overdrafted account to be charged off in a certain amount of days, I know at Wells Fargo, we are mandated to close an account within 60 days. Make sure your hard dollar balance is under $24 (Hard dollars are what you actually owe the bank, not fees) because chances are you might not get it paid off before it closes off. That way your bank cannot report you to chexsystems (a database banks use, sorta like a background check, just with checking accounts) which would make it very difficult for you to have a bank account in the U.S. for a 5 year period.
Then who's is it? Need additional information! If you do or do not know who it is that did it, you need to file a police report. If you do know who did it, you need to file a claim in small claims court.

Call Bank of America's corporate office and make them help you out to see what THEY can do for you.
First send a registed letter to the Office of President of Bank of America. Tell them in writing if you do not get a reply within 30 days, you will file a complaint with the Banking commissioner.
We need more information?

NSF Fees are assessed when you overdraw your account. Almost 2000 in fees is A LOT, is that only the fee or the Overdrawn amount?

You say they won't do anything for you, what have you already tried?

You should be able to get a statement of all of your transactions. If any transaction is not yours you need to dispute it in writting with BOA. If you don't know the address to write to contact your local branch they will give it to you. This could take some time, and while they are investigating they may or may not put the money back temporarily. If all of the transactions on there are yours then you did overdraw your account and you will either have to work it out with BOA or pay the fees.
