When you write a check, does it appear as a debit or credit on your accounting sheet?

Answers:
One of each.
debit
debit
Debits are when money comes out of your account, such as checks or withdrawals through ATM's or debit cards.

Credits are when money goes into your account, deposits.
On your books, it is a credit to cash. On the bank's books, it is a debit.
There is a credit for every debit.
Therefore if the check is for Travel Expense the entry is:
Dr. Travel Expense
Cr. Bank Account
