I applied for a credit card yesterday and I want to cancel it today, will this effect my credit score?
Answers:
Did you just apply or apply and get approved? If you just applied you can't cancel the application. Once you apply it will go on your report as an inquiry. Depending on the rest of your credit this should have a very minimal effect on your score. If you got approved the question is why do you want to cancel the card?
Is it because you found out it has fees you did not read about before you applied. In this case go ahead and cancel it. Any impact from the inquiry is not worth the money you are going to have to spend in the fees.
If there are no fees associated with the card then don't cancel it. Just keep it and don't use it. In the long run this will help to improve your credit score. Also, to improve it more use it ocassionally but pay it off every month so you don't get charged any interest.
Yes. There was an inquiry, and a new account. Those will have an impact.
Closing it will not additionally affect your score.
It should not, what affects the score is when you make late payments or no payments. Or when someone like the car dealership checks your credit.this severely affects your score. So when looking for a car, do not have every dealership run your credit, big mistake.
whenever you authorise someone to look at your credit you are hit for an inguiry to your credit...the new account will already be in effect so the new credit will also hurt your score if you are given the card.if you applied by mail then i would call and hope to stop it before they get it...if it has already processed why not just keep the card..put it away and just dont use it
Yes it does. Like the others said, Inquiries are a big deal. Too many scare potential creditors. It shows them you have opened or tried to open too many accounts which could make you unable to pay them back. Less inquiries the better. If youre gonna open more than 1 account try to do it within a 2 week period which only counts as 1 inquiry even if you applied for 10 accounts. So try to do it within 2 weeks. Good luck.
Yes, because they had to do a credit check first and every time somebody looks at it. Approved or not it will effect your score
