What is the difference between a visa electron card and a visa debit card?

Answers:
most of the above is true.
Most companies are phasing out swith and solo now for some reason and these cards are to be obsolete.
Neither the electron or the visa debit are 'credit cards,' they both come out of your current account.
With the visa electron you can use it where-ever anyone accepts it, this is becoming more wide spread, and a lot of high street shops/supermarkets do accept it now. you can withdraw money from nearly all atms, dont think its very accepted abroad though. With visa electron, you cant go overdrawn on your account so you can only spend what youve got and it is not a cheque gaurantee card. These cards are given out more freely as they have less potential risk to the issuer. The person who said they are not emossed is true, but basically this just means you cant put it in one of thise machines that prints on a cheque but as it is not a guarantee card its irrelevant anyway. It has chip and pin for safety.
The visa Debit basically does all the above however it is more widely accepted especially over the internet and abroad. It is more flexible and you can go over drawn if you have that facility in place with your bank, it is generally a cheque gaurantee card, again if you have that facility with you account. It is embossed.
You are less likely to get a visa debit card if you have a poor credit history .
debit card means you spend your own money electron credit means that you spend the banks (you have to pay it back tho)
am not to sure but i was thinking this when i got my new card sent they canged it to a visa debit but fisrt 1 i had was a visa electron. i dont know but if you find out let me know
a electron can only be used in a atm machine
as the debit card you can use in a shop
and get cash back,,!!
you can use the debit card in more places than the electron
i have the electron and hardly nowhere used to take it - its getting better though ive found that asda take it but tesco dont (Online) and thats all i know
A visa debit is usually for a current account ie one with a cheque book etc. and is usually accecpted where you can use credit but not a normal debit card like switch or electron, where as a visa electron is for just a normal account the you put money in and take it out with no extras but to be honest if you are just using it in the shops are buying over the internet there are more or less the same.
Visa Electron is a wipe card only. The numbers are not embossed on the card and the card has to be present to work. They are very commonly used for fraud.

Vida Debit is a proper debit card which you can use for internet and telephone transactions as well as in person. The numbers are embossed on them. This is the alternative that some banks offer instead of switch.

Both of which you can use in a cash macxhine
