Ok - firstly, in Australia there is no such thing as a credit rating. There is a credit reporting system, but this is not compulsory.

The best way to clear any default reports on your credit history is to repay the debts.

Baycorp, the major crerdit reporting agency, clears default reports after 5 years, however this does not stop the company you owe the money to re-listing the default.

You can request a copy of your credit record - pay anything that is still unpaid then wait 7 years and your credit record is cleared - However in that 7 years people can see you had a debt but you have paid it so look more favourable on you.
