Why does the Air Force gives Credit Checks at 23?

Answer:
If you've got good credit, it means you keep your word! If you don't have good credit, then it means you don't keep your word and the US Air Force doesn't need you!
If you are in serious debt you are a security risk because you are more likely to be able to be bribed. They do this in all military branches.
Because you need good credit to get a security clearance. Lots of troops aren't getting security clearances because they have poor credit histories.

My guess is that the military is notorious for not paying our enlisted men and women enough money and, I know, that a large segment of our military is in debt up to their eyeballs.

They're having problems with Payday Loans, Paycheck Loans, borrowing to their teeth. Now with these great new bankruptcy laws the military people don't have any relief, and even less hope.

They are probably checking the credit so they can see which enlisted persons are going to be experiencing financial troubles and behavioral issues related to this type of situation. (Or, it could be another issue related to keeping an eye on anyone, and everyone, who would make extra money through any means which would fall under the Patriot Act.)

That's my educated guess.
