Can creditors chase me in a different country?

i use to live in america was forced to move back to canada, i owe my cell phone bill to cingular what can they do about it?

The creditor must first locate you and serve you with a summons. If you don't show up (in the US Court) then they get a default judgement.

The fun comes when they try to collect. It's extremely difficult for a creditor go garnish or seize property from someone in another country. Unless it's for a lot of money they will not even mess with it. So I doubt that you have anything to worry about.until you come back to the US.

Keep an eye on the court in the county where you live to be sure they haven't file a court case against you, and get a default. Inform the court you no longer live there, that you are in Canada but don't have a current residence. Force the creditor to search for you.

Only if your information is on Public Records and certain information isn't revealed. There is what you called is a Private Act Policy.
