I had close to $9000.00 in credit card debt on a total of 3 cards and all 3 were Charge-offs on my credit report because I didnt pay them for about a year. I called Family Credit Counseling Corp. http://www.familycredithelp.org/. They are a non-profit organization and they got all 3 of my credit card companies to agree to a monthly payment. I pay $208.00 a month now and only $36.00 of it goes to the company. The rest goes directly to the credit card companies. They take the payment right out of my checking account which is convenient because then you dont "forget" to make the payment. They also send you a monthly statement so you can see your balance going down! It also stops the collections calls! The creditors have to deal directly with FCCC from now on. I am pretty sure they accept more accounts other than just credit cards accounts. Give them a call and they will explain how they work 1(800) 536 9350 or you can sign up directly on their website! It really depends what the issue is.
If you are overloaded in credit card debt and looking at bankruptcy or how to pay it all back, you need to see someone about debt consolidation.
I think your first step should be to see your bank - many banks have debt consolidation specialists. What they will do is take on all of your debt and you will make one monthly payment, but not at the high rates (18-20%) that the credit cards charge you.
There are also non-profit government funded debt consolidation services that do the same thing if you're not able to make an agreement with a bank.
The third option is bankruptcy and starting over, but that really puts a black mark on your record for about 7-10 years - if you're young enough, that could be a best option if your debt is $20-30,000 or more.
