They want to run a credit check on you, and they need your soc number to do that - the same number they ask for every time you open a credit card.
Perhaps your inability to spell and speak clearly defined your ability to pay - race never has, and I am insulted that you would try to play the race card.

No. In order to get a loan or any form of credit, they use your social security number to check your credit background. They see if you have any kind of deliquencies, past credit issues, etc. They aren't just going to give anyone who walks in there a loan

It is very normal for them to ask that. I am white and get asked thatall the time, even by the teller that is friends with my dad.
They usually ask you for your social security number, don't worry. And if you were face to face with someone in a bank, it's most likely not someone trying to steal your identity. Don't worry!
Sounds suspicious to me. As long as you have a picture ID and you are one of the people named on the account, they shouldn't have given you any trouble. However, in some states the law is written so the bank can ask you for a second form of ID for certain transactions like withdrawals. It just seems off to me. If you showed them your drivers license and you're one of the people who can make withdrawals on that account, what's the problem?
Your credit history and your criminal record are attached to your social security number. Before they give you money they need to find out whether you owe money in every state or wanted for murder. There is nothing unusual about that. Banks make money by giving loans. It profits them nothing to turn people away because of the color of their skin.

Dude, seriously, if your bank needs your SSN to process your funds, you're better off just giving it to them. It has nothing to do with them being angry, or you being black. It has to do with the fact that they need your SSN to process your funds.
I don't know where you live, but this is common practice most places.
Get a life. You're the one being racist, not the bank. The bank needs SSN for their records - that's their procedure (and is required).
If you really don't want to give your SSN, then do something with your life - start a business and get an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from IRS. Then you can use that to open business savings, checking accounts, as well as small business loans. Note that you'll still have to give your SSN to get the EIN, but maybe you'll feel better that you're giving it to the IRS and not the bank.

They ask for your social security number because some people owe a lot of money and it's on their credit report. They ask everyone for their social security number though. Don't worry. banks, doctor's, and car dealorships always ask.

uh, no that is the new Patriot Law, if you go into any financial institution in American since 9/11 you will see a poster or sign about the new law. Also your SSN lets the bank know if you have any other accounts that have had right offs such as bad checks at another bank ect.
Many times, also, computers at banks, look up your account via your SSN, instead of a name that 6 people in your city may have. You SSN is not anyone elses but yours.
