Does RESPA 60 grace period apply to the start of a new loan?

RESPA allows a 60-grace period for late payment on the transfer of servicing, and I'm trying to find info with regards to a new loan. We received a new mortgage loan and were not sent a payment request until the end of December - the month it was due. When we got back on vacation - Jan 4 - we saw it was asking for 2 months interest. We contacted the bank and they explained sometimes when a loan funds at the end of the month it takes time to process the loan. So we wired them the funds that day. I recently found out they put a 30 day late on our credit report. They have been unwilling to change the info and it is effecting my credit rating.
