Credit score improvement?
Answers:
Like a lot of the others suggested you should try your bank. However, you can also find credit cards for people that are trying to establish credit, the APR may be a little high for awhile but once you have it for a period of time you apply for a different card from the same company. Try to find one that doesn't charge interest on new purchases. Use the secured one as your last option. They don't tend to help your credit nearly as fast as regular credit cards.
Good luck!!
Also, the only company that I do NOT recommend is Providian. They will charge you all kinds of fees.
I don't necessarily recommend this company, but try TrueCredit.com. They have tips for improving credit that might help.
My son had no credit, so he got a cell phone in his name and went to his bank and applied for a low limit credit card . It didn't take long until his credit was good enough to buy a house. Good luck!
When I applied for my first credit card I got turned down, even though I had absolutely no black marks on my credit report. It was simply a lack of a long enough credit history.
The way I solved this problems was by going to my local bank and applying for their card. They put more faith in one of their own customers. I suspect that your own bank will do the same for you. At the very least they should be willing to issue a debit card against your account.
Good luck. I know it's frustrating to get turned down when you've been doing everything right.
It takes anywhere from 6 months to a year to establish credit. Your husband should've added you as an authorized user on one of his oldest cards in good standing just enough for it to report on your credit so that you could apply for one of your own. That may or may not be an option at this point. If it's not, then the next step would be to check where you do your banking to see if a secured credit card. How that works is that you put a deposit upfront to get the same amount of the deposit in a line of credit. After paying on time for about a year, usually the deposit is refunded and the card changes over to a regular one that doesn't need a deposit. Orchard Bank is a good place to try to get a card if you're trying to build credit. And, if you don't qualify for a regular card, they also have secured ones as well.
I posted the link to where you can apply
Good luck!
The two easiest credit cards to get with bad or no credit is Orchard Bank and First Premier Bank. They will help to increase your credit score. The bad side is, there are fees involved.
