sounds like you are on the right track. pay off the cc with the highest interest rate first and go to the next highest. once they are payed off do not cancell them for another year or so. any you want to keep just use them about twice a year and pay them off asap after you use them. that should do it.
Next time you pay off one of your credit cards it is better to leave the account open, but do not charge on it again.
The 2 cc's you have, you should keep. Cut them up and don't use them. The length of time you've had them is a factor. New credit cards can hurt you as it shortens your average length of time per account. Having too many (such as 8-12+) can hurt you also.

But I think it will help you raise your score too. The interest rate is usually pretty low since you have to have that money available in your account. People usually start with that. using it in gas stations and super markets, and then paying it off at the end of the month. You're probably gonna have to do this for around 6 months. Then start an unsecured Credit Card and just take care of it. The best place to find out about this stuff is from Credit Unions. I have been with a credit union for years and I will never go to a bank again.
