To be the home of our capital perhaps? Or amybe the home of our congress and house of representatives? I could think of a couple others.

DC stands for Distsrict of Columbia..
To provide a place for our congressional leaders and the president to meet to discuss laws, taxes, etc. that will affect us one way or another.
