Applying at Starbucks?

I'm 17 years old and I picked up an application the other day at Starbucks and I'm having difficulty filling it out...

Under the Employment Desired section, it asks me what position I want, but I don't know what positions there are... and it asks in what Location/Department? and what should I put for salary desired... I know I can't ask for much since I'm still in school and have never held a job prior to this one...

The application has a few questions on the bottom, and I want to answer them the best I can... Ultimately I'll decide what I want to write, but I really would like some examples of what others would put:

"What do you like about coffee?"
"Why would you like to work for a Starbucks company?"
"Describe a specific situation where you have provided excellent customer service in you most recent position. Why was this effective?" (Remember, I had no prior job..)

Please answer everything I asked the best you can =\..
Thank You =]

My daughter is a Shift Lead at Starbucks so I should be able to help.
1. For desired position - put "Barista", unless your are applying to the corporate location, all employees start out as Baristas.
2. For Location/Department - either put the address of the store you wish to work at or put the word "any" if you are willing to work at any location.
3. "What do you like about coffee?" - Coffee conjures up an image of people relaxing together, and just spending time with a friend.
4. "Why would you like to work for a Starbucks company?"
I've noticed that Starbucks employees always seem to be having a good time while working, they seem friendly and happy to be working - I would like the chance to be part of a team like that. (Starbucks is very big on the "team" thing!)
5. Re: Customer Service - If you've never had another job before, just say so but try to think of a time when you helped a stranger because you just wanted to be nice.

I hope this helps, good luck sweetie!
As for the position you are applying for, its probably for a barista (sp?) thats what they call there coffee serving ppl. It won't look too bad if you leave that blank though. As for salary desired, as far as I know, starbucks has a set salary, so put something like $7-8 an hour. Since I am pretty sure they have a set rate, asking for too little won't screw you, and even asking for a little more then they are paying generally won't be too bad. They'll just ask you if you are willing to work for a little less.

As for the other questions, be honest. Do you like coffee? If so tell them what you like about it, if not, lie. Even if you are not a coffee fan, but like something else they have, like hot chocolate, just go on about that. Be sure to mention products they sell.

I think you can answer the second question yourself. Why do YOU want to work there? Do you enjoy working with and or helping people? Do you enjoy being in a busy enviornemnt? I wouldn't mention too much if you have alot of friends that hang out there, since the boss could see that as you wanting to be there to hang out with friends instead of work.

And for the last question, just think of a time when you had to think on your feet, and problem solve. Have you ever had a family gathering where you had to help plan and or serve the meal? Basically they want to know if you can think on your feet, and if a problem comes up you can get through it without freaking out.
If you think those questions are stupid, wait for the interview!

As far as salary, always put "open" when it's an entry level hourly position, because you don't really know what they offer. Call a starbucks anonymously and ask whoever answers the phone what types of positions there are and what someone in your position should put there.

"What do you like about coffee?"
--That has got to be the dumbest question EVER. "I like the caffeine... I like the image... I like that it's brown and liquidy and warm..." What do they expect you to say?

As far as describing a previous position yet you have not had one, try to think of an example from school, or scouts, or church, or within your family and friends in which you have helped out jsut because you felt it was the right thing to do.
Cashier.
Location: where you picked-up the application.
Salary desired write in part-time/hourly. It leaves it open for discussion. Since your still in school.

So what do you like about coffee? Pick-Me-Up in the morning. Compliments breakfast.

Why work for Starbucks? Popular company, you heard talk about it or saw it on the news or saw an ad or tv show. Be real about this!

Last question put in this Starbucks would be your first job/employer..
