Who is making more on Gas Gauging....OPEC or the Gas Companies?
Answers:
You can't be serious. Opec makes a fortune, PERIOD!! The gas companies compete internationally and their profits go up and down (lately up), and try looking up how much the government makes on the taxes on gas - please pursue that.
Politics keep our gas prices higher than they might be, but please compare to Europe before you go blaming anyone here too much; we have it so good here in the USA we are spoiled. How much of your gross or net income do you spend on gas, as a per centage? I feel blessed.
OK, so I won't get points on this one, but consider how cheap you also have food, clothing, and electricity as a percentage of your income.
OPEC, of course. Think about it ... their costs don't go up ... only the prices.
Let's not forget the windfall state governments get on higher gas prices. Most charge sales tax per dollar of sale, so higher gas prices mean increase in tax revenues.
since gas prices are way higher and oil is not at all time highs, I'd think the gas companies are making the extra profit. When oil was $10. a barrel higher gas wasn't this high. A huge part of the extra cost right now in gas is the addition of ethanol. Our government subsidizes the producers of ethanol in the U.S. and adds a tax on cheaper import from Brazil.
