I think until there is an alternative to fueling cars by gas, I will always buy gas.

What would likely change is my usage of gas. I have a long commute right now. At some point, it will not be worthwhile to do if the cost of gas hits a certain point. So, I would likely find work closer to home...even if it is for less money...to reduce fuel usage. Once or twice a month I take the family for a ride out to the country just to go for a ride and see different landscapes and lifestyle. This probably would happen much less frequently.
honestly, I doubt there is a cap on that. Most cities DO NOT have an efficient public transportation system so even if gas prices are high, I am still willing to pay the higher prices over waking up an hour or two early to catch the bus to get to work/ school on time & then another hour or two at the end of the day...... too dependent on gas.....
can't put a cap on it. i have to drive. but with school letting out pretty soon, i will drive less and therefore buy less gas.
tommorow May 15th their having a gaspump boycott no one suppost to by gas were payin 3.29 in Mich
It's not that I will stop buying gas. We are totally dependent on it. It's when will gas stop buying me! Soon all but the wealthy and fools will be priced out of driving a gas powered vehicle. It won't it long before I can't afford it and can't buy it. And when Bubba can't afford to drive that big-* pick'em up truck he's making payments on out of his driveway...then watch the fun begin!
I have to be able to drive to work every day so I am going to have to keep buying gas, no matter what the price is. However, I have managed to cut down on some of the extra driving. Unless I know I have to buy something heavy, I walk to the grocery store. If I have to run errands, I visit a shopping area that has a Target, grocery store, Petsmart, Office Depot, and a dollar store all in one parking lot. That helps me combine multiple trips into one to save a little gas.

I checked into taking the bus to work but my 20 minute drive would turn into a 90 minute bus ride with multiple changes. This just isn't reasonable for me.

I used to carpool to work with a friend but then my schedule got changed and we work different hours now.

Public transportation only works if there are many people in a relatively condensed area. Since everyone seems to want a home away from everyone else, we have too much sprawl to have an effective transportation center.
In my city, there is a light rail system. However, you have to drive to get there because they didn't build sidewalks on several of the roads! By the time you drive to the light rail station and find a parking space, you could have just driven to work.
