What is the meaning of CEO(Chief Executive Officer )?
Answer:
I can see why this is confusing. These job titles do seem to overlap.
A board of directors steers the general direction of a company, but does not get involved in the day to day running of things. Directors are members of that board. The Chairman of the Board presides over that board, and sets the agenda and keeps the ideas organized and controlled.
The President of the company often sits that the chairman of a board, but may also be involved in the running of the company. This is where overlap may occur.
The Chief Executive Officer is the person that runs the day to day operation of a company, and may also be that President and chairman of the board. He/she does not have to be a board member or chairman of that board. This overlap may or may not be important for that board's operation.
In very large corporations, you can have many company or division Presidents. In many cases, a CEO heads these operational Presidents.
The situation becomes even more complicated wen you learn about stock holdings of these officers and where they fit into the company's long term financial condition. Their political power within the company can vary with thier holdings and Corporation Bylaws.
