Should major record companies and labels be merging with each other?

What do you think of this practice? To me, it is morally wrong because it destroys healthy competition, not to mention some good artists out there losing their recording deals. I think Sony merging with BMG a few years back was a big commercial mistake.

Answers:
Personally, no. Major labels usually merge with smaller labels to "raid" their talent and the music library, which can be worth a great deal in royalties and licensing deals. I think the practice, while not morally wrong, does, to a degree, stifle musical innovation from independent artists. There are however, many avenues now for artists to distribute music (iTunes, MySpace, et. al.) where competition should remain vibrant both in the near, and the long, term.
YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE ECONOMICS OF ALL OF THIS ! It is not about artists losing recording deals, it is more about over saturation of market, conditions only support the sellers, there are many losers who do not sell.
Labels lose money and sue artists as a fact of life, on a regular basis.
