I can only think of disadvantages. In terms of churning reports, you need to churn from 2 different systems. And usually the 2 types of info are linked.
HRIS usually will need salary info too. So if there is a change to anyone's salary, you need to update 2 separate systems.
It is easier during auditing and classification of information. The human resources system has more data that is continously changing which might not necessary affect pay. It also creates work.
The disadvantage is that they is just too much double work going around and sometime the information for a person might be captured differently
