How is international business affected by U.S. trade laws? Who do these laws protect? Do you think they are?
Answers:
Well, U.S. Trade laws pretty much determine whether or not a country is prosperous or not. We, the U.S.A. have been on a roll during the past decade setting up free trade pacts with almost anyone that has a product to sell. There have been dire consequences to this thinking. We have a major segment of Corporate America exporting our technology to countries, China for example, that are now competing with us. China is in fact, growing industrially at such a fast rate that they are now using a major chuck of the worlds oil supplies.
Free trade mean that no duties are charge to these country when they export their goods to us whereas our government places a high tax on these same products which are manufactured at home. People complain about quality of imported goods but continue to purchase them. I does not take long before these Trade Partners are able to meet or exceed our own quality standards and do so at a fraction of the cost.
If you are old enough to remember, Made in Japan used to mean it was cheaply made. Now to buy a Sony electronic device or a Lexus Automobile are very desirable. Few countries can compare to the quality. How is it that we are being nudged out? Well, it seems that Americans just don't want to work for a living anymore. All the uproar about illegal Mexicans working here, well, the truth is, illegal Aliens are building this country. If you were to go to Mexico and get caught working, you would be in big, trouble. But that is for another question.
