Do you think it is unfair by the gas/electric suppliers to be charging the elderly as much as the rest of us?
Answer:
yes because my grandma only has a 1000 dollars a month of social security to live off of and she is barely making it. its hard for her to pay for medications too because they are so expensive.
I agree let the government pay they get enough money off the tax payer
do old people use it slower than us? They had a choice to save for a pension, and those who chose not to will be colder than those who did. That's life mate
Yes.
When you buy a loaf of bread, it is the same price for a rich man as a poor man.
goverment shoud pay towards the cost of feul not just for the eldery but for single parent famalies aswell
well. i don't know, they still use what they use don't they, perhaps the pensions should go up or something but i don't see why they shouldn't be charged for what they use, they may as well help themselves to free shopping as well, if people pay less they get greedy - old or young, if you rent a house with bills included you are far more free with the amenities than you are if bills are excluded,if telephone calls were free no one would ever get off the phone, it would just be awful.
i do think that benefits etc for old people are too low though.
and too high for Chavs!
no
To be honest I think if you've worked 50 years and paid your taxes then you should never see another bill for fuel or council tax.
I hear that the government has just scrapped a supper computer even before it was finished at a cost of over 350 million.
If we stopped wasting money on things like gay, race minority and paying people to jump out and fine you when you accidentally drop a sweet wrapper then we would have enough cash to give pensioners fee energy.
well it's 15% over the odds not 30%.
most power/energy companys have some reduce rates for the old ,
like power gen , have stay warm, british gas will give you
£90.00 a year of your bill if your old or young and on benifit,of al most any kind , i know it not much , but some do try to help.
i feel it lie's at the gov's door why dont they say that oap's dont pay vat on their energy bills , that would save them another 15% a year ,,,,but when you have a pepayment meter from bg, on the gas you WILL PAY THE SAME PRICE , PER KWH, AS SOME ONE WITH THEM WHO PAY CASH,,, lecky is diffirent though, thats why i think you have a point ..used to work 4 BG as a energy sales rep / door 2 door ,,,but not now.
Dont be silly, they want you all to freeze cause your costing the taxpayers a fortune in pensions.Get someone to do a job on your meter, what they going to do-Nothing.Enjoy your life while you can friend, take on a big load of loans and credit cards, sell up and move abroad and have a ball. The uk aint going to get any better
They should be lowering their prices anyway. Cost of fuel has gone down. The elderly and the sick.. the unfortunate and the ones that are not in a position to pay.. should all get government grants to pay for a certain amount of fuel.. then they pay the rest. What do you think.. good idea or not? xx good question.. lots of good answers.. enjoyed that one. Valid question. Well done for highlighting this.
Karlos you're wonderful. Stand for Parliament and I'll vote for you. Your perspicacity and intelligence are only exceeded by your good sense.

Surely it depends on the pensioner's personal circumstances? Means testing is the only answer in my book. I know of many pensioners who are very well heeled indeed and then again there are those who need our help, the government's help, too.
It's a hard fact of life, but these companies are not charities. The problem is that pensions are disgracefully low,the Government should pay pensioners eneough to live without subsidies.
check out Ireland and see what they do for the elderly everything is almost FREE, here the elderly have to suffer on , what a joke of a country this is , they love to look after the imigrants!!
It is not unfair by the suppliers. They are businesses accountable to their shareholders for profits. Some do give reductions to the elderly in any case. It is up to government to act as the conscience of the nation and to help the elderly on behalf of a civilised country.
I think they should pay the same as the tax system is designed to prop up really vulnerable. So poor old people should get help centrally and rich old people not. The issue is to ensure there is sufficient tax receipts to prop up the needy. so less waste from government or more tax from the people. We live in a democracy that's gives us the right to chose. Lib dems would allow older people to pay less I chose not to support that instead I would focus on stripping out waste.
