Why does 1800flowers.com think sending a $5.99 credit makes up for total incompotence?

I ordered a get well bouquet and a get well soon balloon for a relative who is in the hospital and just had a heart attack. 1800flowers.com sent a happy birthday balloon instead. When I informed them of their error, they decided to "make it up to me" with a $5.99 credit. Uh, yeah - that really makes up for it. Any thoughts on how I can get the word out this site stinks? ;)

Answer:
Yes, I made the mistake of calling them about 5 years ago.
Since they did not deliver on-time I ended up calling to see what happened. After arguing for awhile, they eventually gave me the number of the local florist that was suppose to deliver my flowers. Their just a middle man service that takes about 10-15% of the total bill and I find it easier to deal with local florist directly.
that is messed up
LOL that is sad.
Frankly, that's pretty incredible service and I thank you for telling me about them. I've never heard of a company (except my own) actually giving folks a credit when they make a mistake instead of just saying "I'm sorry".

FANTASTIC SERVICE!

You just did. I'd call them back & ask to speak to a manager/supervisor to explain what happened. They should correct the error with sending the right flowers & balloon, not offer a credit. Your intended recipient didn't get what you ordered. Contact the florist where the flowers came from. Maybe the error is theirs, not 1800flowers.com.

I've used 1800flowers.com for several years. I've only had one problem with an order & they took the steps to fix it, so did the florist.
I used to work for them ..first in taking orders and then in customer service. That would be pure hell. The stories I heard, just like yours and some worse. I know this, the "deal" they try to give you first is not what they are prepared to do if you keep nagging them . I had three offers I could make and then it went to a supervisor.
I think you just did.
by any chance is $5.99 a refund, the cost of a balloon. They got the flowers right, the balloon wrong. I would say that your lucky they didn't just stiff you, or give you a simple "i'm sorry".
Is this the worst customer service you have gotten, or is it more about the nature of the screw up, I wouldn't waste your breath, save it to walk down to the hospital and check in on your relative, give them the gift of your personal presence. If that's not possible then perhaps you should call and make a joke out of what has happened, after all laughter is the best medicine.
