What are the steps and cost of becoming Incorporated?

Answer:
Ask your lawyer. Just that word, "lawyer," should tell you that route won't be cheap.

Here are some things you will have to do.

1) Figure out if you want to go C Corp or S Corp.

2) Check internet sites that give you sample Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation to use. There are a couple of sites that give you samples and you just stick your company name, address, shareholder name in there. I think some sites charge like $50.

3) Check your state's Secretary of State website in your state to see if your corporation name has been taken or not. This should be free.

4) File the Bylaws and Article of Incorporation with the Secretary of State

5) File a SS4 with the IRS for a corporation id number. This is free and takes about 15 minutes online.
Nothing no cost
