Why does it seem Walmart is taking over the country?
Answer:
because to people like the walton family, the guy who owns Starbucks, and the shareholders of Costco, enough is never enough..
Someone else will come along eventually and outcompete them over the long run anyway. It might be Costo.
because they are - start buying stuff online if you dont have another local store.
They already did long, long ago. That's why you have nowhere else to go get your craft stuff. But there will be others. They will go the way of K-Mart, Ames, etc.
Do your part and shop DOWNTOWN.
Because it really is! I mean they're cheap and they have decent quality things.but their sales staff isn't all that great..
Wal*Mart only seems like its the only store in the country. As long as people shop there, eventually, they WILL be the only store in the country.
I have boycotted them for years based solely on their monopoly in the marketplace. If only more people would do so!
Support Smaller Stores in your home town!
I think its because they have good deals on thins, such as prices & whatnot! Most of Americans lives on a budget & how can you say not to a good bargain? I love the clothes and the fact that they have a really cool DVD deals!!
We are becoming a Wal Mart society. Cheaper not quality is what drives us. Wal Mart needs to get in the oil business. They are trying to take over the Prescription drug business, next it will be banks.
I would try and buy stuff online if I were you. Better selection, fair pricing and no WAL MART.
Because of the cheap price. That's why.
Because they are, especially in the South.
I live in a small town and am stuck too!! Makes me mad!
** WALK MART!
That place is driving the ma and papa stores out of the business. I hope there will not be a day when the only store we all have to go to is Wal-mart! There seem to be soo little options, if people took a stance and started to shop else where, spending a few dollars more, things wouldn't progress the way they are now.
well..this isn't really a question. It's basically your stupid opinion, talk 2 some1 else about it
cause the way walmart does business is foul and the crush smaller company's and take the space
Because they are. A lot of us Americans complain about WALMART, but we find our selves there shopping any way. I think it is like an addiction. You really don't like it, but you can't stay away from it.
Because Walmart is as rich as windows ($60,000,000,000).
So yeah, they can look like there taking over the world.
Are you kidding? Wal-mart has conquered the US, it is now going international, it is buying out retail stores in China to expand the international sucess.
I feel bad for all the "Mom and Pop" stores that are being put out business because they cannot compete on that type of corporate level. Wal-mart is killing the American Dream. Boycott Wal-mart.
EAA,
They already are in the oil business. Haven't you seen the Wal-mart gas stations?
Well, when you live in a small town you are pretty much limited, and Walmart knows this. But on the other hand look at all the people from your small town that are working because Walmart is there, look at everyone who doesn't have to drive forever just to get some of the basic necessities and look at cost savings you experience.. as crappy as some of that Walmart stuff is, you will not find a better price anyway else. I prefer Target over Walmart, but I live in an urban area so I have a choice.
Wal-mart is a smart company. It understand the two most important concepts of building wealth. Competition and costs. It is located only where there is no competition, that's why yup, you go there, there is probably nowhere else to go. In most big cities, you don't even see a Wal-mart, that's because there is too much competition in the cities. It also pays workers like nothing, close to minimum. The founder is not known to donate anything to good causes, but they are always the top company and if the ownership wasn't split up, Wal-mart would in #1 in Fortune 500 list every year.
Hi there, buy online if you can. I never shop walmart anymore for that reason. They are too big for their britches and they do outsourcing for a lot of their corporate jobs. Also, I just read that they don't pay enough to their part-time workers and are having to pay a big lawsuit to cover their butts. I shop at other places now like Target, Michaels, etc..any place but Walmart.
I could fully understand shopping at a mom or pop store that was reasonable. We will be soon getting a SuperCenter and many in this town are expecting the worst. What is so difficult about this question is the debate involved with it. Shopping at a Walmart does not mean I want to put other stores out of business, it simply means that I need money for gas and food and clothing for my children. It simply means I'm budgeting my money, and trying to be responsible. I've tried shopping at the local stores only to feel as though I had been completely ripped off. Small town stores will have to compete a little bit more for my business. Walmart is doing so well because they recognize that we all can't afford Macy's & Saks, and they unfortunately take advantage of that. But don't assume that those high end stores don't also get their items from third world countries, because they abuse that also.
Because they are. Sadly because of their purchasing power they are able to buy their product at cheaper prices than their competitors. This in turn forces the surrounding small business to close. It really sucks, cause they are everywhere! I have a small place in Baja Mexico and they are even opening a store five minutes away!
THAN GO TO ANOTHER STORE!! DUH IT'S AS EASY AS 123! OR DON'T YOU KNOW HOW TO COUNT YET?:)
They sell what people want at a competive price and are open 24 hours per day. It takes extra effort to avoid Walmart. The Democrats see them as evil, but I see a free market working like a charm.
yea but they do have good deals
I understand that they may force smaller, more localized shops out of business. I also have heard that their narrow, I believe christian values means that people who have to rely on them don't have access to things outside of that scope (I read that somewhere, particularly relating to the books they offer for sale).
But let's face it, we're a frugal culture. It's really OUR fault to a good degree. If we all insisted on frequenting the speciality shops, they couldn't have gained such a foothold.
I was pleasantly suprised to discover that they sell birth control. I was down south last year and ran out of contraceptives. I had recently read the article I described above, so I didn't have much hope they'd carry the Sponge. But they did! I guess I forgot it's just Catholics who are down on birth control.
