Is walmart considered a monopoly on the market? owning walmarts and sams club and costco and.?
Answers:
wal-mart is NOT the definition of a monopoly, because they still have competition from Target, K-Mart, Meijer's, and other budget department stores. A monopoly is where a company has absolute dominance over a market. if you wanted a better example, look at Microsoft and how they dominate 90% or more of the PC operating system software market.
Wal-mart would probably be a better example of predatory pricing maybe, or just of an absolutely cheapo, immoral company that treats their employees like crap, import goods from China where they don't enforce any labor laws, and where they destroy mom and pop stores by undercutting their prices.
No.
I guess this would really depend on your local market (i.e. your geographic region). Can you travel to a different location and buy something elsewhere? Then it's not a monopoly. I've commented on Wal-Mart in my blog ( http://www.capitalai.com/blog ) about business strategy and entrepreneurship and I've listed it as a source if you feel like heading over...
