Transfering from commerical/industrial to military job?
On a side note, what GS is good to start out with a bachelors degree?
Answers:
Have you looked at the www.USAjobs.gov website?
You can enter your skills and do searches for your area to see what you might be interested in. Why it is a good idea: guaranteed an income - regardless of the economy, guaranteed at least a 3% raise every year due to inflation - very difficult to get "laid off" once you are in, you are in. The benefits are better than any corp. package and you tell me any other institution that gives you raises regardless of performance...?
Depending on your experience as well as what your degree is in you should qualify for anything between a GS05 - GS09 position. If you have 10-12 years exp. the yes you can apply for up to GS11 poositions.
It really depends on what YOU want to do and where you want to live. Don't reduce your options by limiting what branch of Gov't jobs you are willing to work in a given area - just Select All, because they literally have EVERY department ont here and half the time you won't even know what it is responsible for doing!
Make sure you read the FULL job description for anything that looks interesting to you - also make sure you STAY A CIVILIAN! within the position. There are typically 4 tabs along the top of each GENERAL job description, I can't remember which it is but I think it is either the 2nd or 3rd one that gives you a fairly full description of your duties as an employee in that position. Make sure you can do at least 75% of it before you submit your interest!
Also remember that when you are uploading your resume to the site - be very thorough on any words or wording that would be "key" to what you are wanting to do. They don't actually read the resumes - they just do keyword searches. It isn't until they are down to about 10 individuals that they actually read them.
