What skills do u want from your manager?
Answer:
A good manager should:
- Clearly define the direction to go, what the unit has to achieve.
- How every one is contributing or can contribute to that goal.
- How everyone would benefit contributing to that goal.
- Define what is good and bad.
- Be eager to praise anybody who deserves it, in public.
- Point to mistakes in private, and as opportunities to learn to do things better
- Be fair, no favouritisms
- As somebody mentioned, establish the objective and leave you free (not alone) to get it.
- Generous
For any manager in any business the best thing you can do tell your staff what you want done clearly and them leave them to it.
Honesty, & consistency!
Having a bit of intelligence would be a start, it would also help them to garner respect if they'd got to management level through hard work and being good at their job and not back stabbing and inserting their tounge up someones rectum.
To be able to read and write,,but most of all a brain would come in handy
You would need good organisational and communication skills. People skills are a must. Shouting at a new young member of staff would just end up in them scarred for life and not returning. Explaning to that new member of staff yes. Don't try to be pally with people who work for or under you. just be nice and watch what you say, 'Derick the main man' might be a good listener but if is he a gossip you've had it. Everything you are told on a private level by staff should remain confidential. Go on a course if you have to.
From my manager I seek the following skills:
1) Business Acumen
2) Humble - a manager who not only develops your skills but learns from you as well.
3)Fair, consistent, honest and open.
4) Level headed.
He should know more than me!
