Paralegals - do you enjoy your job?

I am thinking of getting an A.A. in paralegal studies for a career change. I think I would enjoy it, but need some advice. I am detail oriented, a hard worker with excellent computer and spelling/grammar skills.

Please let me know if you enjoy your job, your salary range if you feel OK with that, and what skills etc you think are most important for this field.

Also, did you go to an ABA approved school or do you have a CLA/CP?

Do you work in a law firm, for a title company or local government?

Thanks for the answers!

Answer:
i'm not a paralegal but have worked with alot of them in a law firm setting. whether or not you like it depends i guess on your personality. you will be working with lots of attorneys and will be taking alot of orders from attorneys. it is very fast paced and you will be 'dumped on' by alot of attorneys (i.e. doing things they should be doing). you will be dealing with alot of anxious clients who want to get their legal situation , whatever it may be, resolved. dealing with people with problems is not always a pleasant experience.

on the bright side, if you find a particular area of law (civil, criminal, real estate, tax etc) interesting and you are smart and detail oriented and a people person, you may like being a paralegal. even if you find that you do not like what you are doing, after obtaining your paralegal degree, you have other options that relate to paralegal work. if you choose to specialize in real estate as a paralegal for example, you can work for a law office, a title company, a bank, real estate division of a municipality etc.

aba approved school or cla/cp is generally not necessary to get your foot in the door but a few of the more prestigious law firms and companies like to see that on the resume. but do become a notary, it is pretty easy and is a plus.
