What are some careers that involve working with the disabled?
Answer:
Yeah social work is a very rewarding profession, my best friend just graduated from college with that degree.
You could also be a recreational therapist, they just plan activities for people, like in nursing homes and stuff. I work in a nursing home, and the recreational therapists do a lot there, they plan a variety of activities to keep people social and active.
I dont know how old you are, but another thing you could do it work for an agency that helps the developmentally disabled, they have people that help those who are disables with their day to day activities.
Or you could even be a special needs teacher! There is a lot that you can do!
I would recommend you research what is available in your area and start volunteering to see what it is you like to do!!
Good luck and I hope this helped!
A Social Worker
McDonalds.
The Federal Government.
New York Yankees.
Just to name a few.
Become a nurse and get a job carring for patients at a special hospital that is for disabled children.
I did this type of work for 33 years and I would not recommend it to anyone. It is difficult and heartbreaking and the number of people who are thankful are few and far between. It's seriously depressing work and to succeed and keep going in day after day you have to harden yourself. It also requires a college degree.and if you're paying for a college degree get a better one and work in another field. Don't believe me? see if you can volunteer to shadow a worker for 30 days in a row some summer. I bet you won't last 15 days.
Instructional assistants (also called paraeducators) in the schools work with kids who have disabilities. There are occupational therapists. Those people do stuff with disabled kids and helping them adapt to the world.
On a side note: I think this is a really cool question to ask. It just so happens to be that my sister-in-law just finished her BS in Physical movement with a focus inn exercise at Pacific U in Forest Grove,OR. She now works with disabled kids as an OT in the summer and an IA for the school district in the school year. She really enjoys her jobs. I hope you will too.

it's called SERVICE WORKER in my association, i work for the developmentally disabled in a group home on a graveyard shift so it is also aptly called AWAKE service worker. got to have it because not everybody is interested in this field.
I think the best thing you can do it's to donate money to an NGO.
Working with people with disabilities is very hard, mostly because they are used to get everything for granted. I worked directly with people with motor disabilities at a vocational school for 6 years and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone
