I worked for the county for 30 yrs. i now have a comfortable income but i see young people?
Answer:
Often we young people don't have a choice about switching jobs. The job market is different (not better or worse, just different) than is used to be 30 years ago. I am afraid that many of us aren't proactively thinking about our future, and will regret it in another 40 years. It's hard to make decisions about our future when things like SS are up in the air (I'm sure I'll never see a cent of the money I have contributed). I have a private investment through a mutual fund, but I don't contribute as much as I should--it's too hard to get by as it is.
It's almost impossible to find a job these days that offers any kind of long term security. Employees for major corporations know by hiring new people they can always pay them less. By giving people part time as opposed to full time they save money on providing retirement packages.
I fear that many of these people will not be adaquetly prepared for the future. Those without a helping hand may find themselves in despair.
No jobs have long term security these days, yes a lot of people chop and change but you would be surprised how many haven't thought about long term pensions etc. Most of us settle down in our mid-twenties, early thirties but we face an aging population so most of us won't retire till we're 70 anyway, why not have fun now and plan for that future in a few years time?
