Is it bad if you need to take a step back and go back to your previous employer?

Answer:
Employees who return to their previous places of work are called boomerang employees. Providing we leave on good terms, there is always a chance to return to our old employers. In fact, this is the top reason why all exits should remain graceful. No matter how much you might need a change, no matter how much you might want to leave with a bang, always leave the back door open.

Employers, in concept, love boomerang employees. Simply put, they know the culture, they know the operation (heck, they know where the bathroom is). In other words, from a training and learning perspective, it’s cheaper to hire a prior employee back, and less risky.

You mention, ‘is it bad to take a step back’. That comment might be the crux of the whole question. In other words, while returning to a company is not all that bad, returning to a position because you think you have to, or returning to a position believing you’re going backwards in your career can be difficult. Examine your question carefully.

Once you start contemplating returning to an old employer, ask yourself why. After all, you left for a reason. Unless you need to return desperately, be sincere with your assessment as to whether or not things have really changed.
not at all, life takes us back everytime it can
i think that depends on your situation. Sometimes people think they can find better because they have been in one job for so long and they know alot from that one job. But some employers look for employees that have been employeed in many different career fields or different positions under that one career, to show that they have the experience.
A job is a job, sometimes having an income form someplace you feel comfortable in is better than no income. That is why I advise people to tread lightly at work, because you may never know if you need them to fall back on, such as for a recommendation.
