What skills do you need to work in a library and are they worth volunteering in.?
Answer:
There are different positions in a library and each has its own qualifications. For example, being a desk clerk may or may not require a bachelors degree while being a Librarian requires a Masters in Library Science. Volunteers do not need any special education however what you do is dependant on what they need you to do . file books, check out books, etc. If you are interested in pursuing a job in a Library, definately volunteering will show you what it's all about before you invest in schooling for such a job only to find that you don't like it. In addition to public libraries, there are private libraries as well.
you must have strong arms to carry the books.

Hi, I work at a library. We always need volunteers especially if the library is a very busy library. It is helpful if you know the dewey decial system. There are diffrent kinds of jobs. One is a library page where you shelve books and check in books. Second is library clerk. You just need a high school degree for this. You must be able to pass a typing test to type at least 30 wpm and know the dewey decial (sp?) because they will test you on this.Third is a library assitant(sp?) where the job requires a bachelor degree in library science. To be a librarian it requires a master's degree in library science. Hope this helps!
