What moving companies has anyone used for moving from Florida to California? good experiences/bad experiences?

My problem is I have heard that UHaul is more expensive then first realized. I have an expensive pool table, bed, and kayak that I wish to be shipped but obviously they are all very heavy. The rest of my furniture I can live without. Does anyone have an experience with moving this few stuff? what were the costs? hidden fees?good companies? bad companies?

Answer:
First of all, stay away from U-Haul.half the time you show up and your truck is not even available!

Budget is the best, bigger trucks, nicer , cleaner, newer and cheaper.

Another way is to go with a Canadian moving company, they cost quite a bit less than in the US, sometimes up to %50, they cover the Miami > New York > Toronto > Vancouver > Los Angeles route.

It's a little like taking multiple stops with an airline, might take longer but it can be cheaper in some cases.
I used Spirit Van Lines. I moved from NC to CA. The first estimate was $1500 and then it cost me $700 more. The intial price was based on how many rooms of furniture I had. The extended costs came from how many actual feet I took up on the truck. I didn't account for all my boxes and I had a crapload. I moved to CA to an apt that I hadn't seen. I rented the appt all online. I didn't know there were stairs until I got here. I thought there was an elevator. It cost me $75 extra.

I've had friends move from VA to OR. They used a service where they drop off the truck to you and you pack it. I think all in all they spent less than $2K.
