If you are wanting to help families of seniors who seek help with caregiving, I would suggest that you connect with the Area Agency on Aging that serves your county.

The folks there will know the details about programs and services that are available to seniors --and would know groups and organizations who hire caregivers. Area Agencies on Aging are one of the best kept secrets around for older Americans and their families who are seeking information on care options, so they would have links with families who might be interested in hiring you to help. Also, Area Agencies on Aging have services and connections to programs that can help family caregivers--they would have a list of nursing and assisted living facilities in the area, also.

You can call toll-free 1-800-677-1116 to find how to contact the Area Agency on Aging serving where you live.

After you get the phone number for your local Area Agency on Aging and make the call, ask for the staff that handles the "Family Caregiver" program or "In-Home Services" for seniors.

It would be advisable for you to have some information ready about why you want to be a caregiver for seniors--any related experience you have, such as help to older family members, etc, and education or training that you have had. You will also want to provide phone numbers for references who are non-family members who will attest to your honesty and dependability to be a caregiver for elders. You will also want to provide the necessary information that potential employers can use to do a background check which will almost certainly be a requirement.

If you do contact your local Area Agency on Aging and like the help that they give you, let your local county officials and your folks in Congress know. Or consider making a contribution to support their work. Area Agencies on Aging don't have big budgets-- and appropriations for the Older Americans Act, the legislation that makes this help possible-- have not increased significantly for about 25 years!

Hope this helps! Thanks for caring about elders. Good luck with your plans!
Check with your local Senior Services. You might need a first aide class, but otherwise nothing.
you can work at a personal care home, alot of them dont require anything and give you one te job training, if you work as an CNA certified nurses aide, the class is around 6 months. and you can work in a licensed nursing center or a hosipital.
Why don't you go to school for nursing then you can working in nurning home as a nurse or you can call local nurning home and ask if you can volunteer for non-nurning jobs and this way you can get experience and take care of old people.
Start as a CNA. (Certified Nursing Assistant) You can obtain this certification through your local Red Cross or local community college. It doesn't take long, and can get you started while you pursue nursing later. And.the world needs you and more like you!
Apply with a nursing home. they will usually pay for you to get your CNA license and they will let you start working after only a week or two in school. Typically you have to go to CNA school for about six to eight weeks. Good luck. Our older generation needs caring people to look after them.
