For what reason(s) would a job ask for a photo?
Answers:
If it is an id photo, they will attach it in your application form, government form, id, etc. for reference...
If it is a picture, maybe the top management wanted to get applicants with pleasing personality... and they could only get it by looking at pictures...
Personally I can't think of any legitimate reason, unless the company is trying to discriminate based on age, sex, race, etc. but they are trying to be sneaky about it which isn't right. Otherwise why would they need your picture? Just a thought.
A photo or a photo I.D.? If it's just a photo, it sounds kind of strange to me.

They may use the photo as a reminder of who they spoke with - after dozens of interviews things mush. I would say that the question is - did they do this with all their candidates, or just you. Also - did they ask you to sign any type of release?
I don't know about a potential employer asking for a photo, but if you really look like your avatar I'd ask for one too.

If you haven't been hired yet, they can't legally ask you for a photo.
If you have been hired, it could be used for job security, like ID badges. One job I had asked for a photo to be released as part of a news article about new employees.
