When I grow up I want to be a either a phycologist, psychiatrist, biochemist, or a teacher. Which one?
Answer:
If you go into anything because of the money you are not going to be happy with your choice. Pick what you like to do. The only difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist in that a psychiatrist went to medical school as well as having a doctorate in Psychology. Which basically means that they can prescribe medicine. It also depends on how much school you want to take or go through. the be legally qualified to be called a psychologist you have to have a doctorate in Psychology, Counselor in at least a masters (2-3 years extra of school) some states require a doctorate (3-5 years extra of school), Psychiatrist is a doctorate and a MD, you can teach grade school with a bachelor's degree and you can be a low level biochemist with a bachelor's as well. Sadly none of these jobs pay extremely well, and it varies from state to state some pay better than others. But at the end of the day you should chose what you like to do, and let money not play into it. Choose what you want to spend the rest of your life doing. Statistically speaking people are more effective when they like what they are doing, not doing it for the money. Not to mention that if you pick something for the money you will not be as happy with you choice as if you had chosen it for the enjoyment. Still undecided? When you get accepted into college go to their testing center. They can do what is called a 'strong interest' test and it will help you make the choice of what to pursue, or what would work best for you in school.
a psychiatrist is basically someone above a psychologist who gives out medication for mental disorders. psychologist refer their patients to psychiatrists. psychiatrists make the most money, but you will be in school for about 12 more years after college. psychologists make a good amount of money, but also, you will need additional schooling after college. psychologist is more scientific than it is counseling. they use personality tests and things to figure out what is wrong instead of just talking to the person. a counselor i think is what you are looking to do. it really doesnt pay well. and if youre going to be a teacher, that doesnt pay well either. hope thish elps! sorry its so long!
