Have a very long shift at work today, what does my employer legally have to do?

i start at midday and finish at about 3 am tomorrow, are there any laws my employer has to follow when it comes to keeping me this long

Answer:
He has to pay you, give you some breaks.
That is it!
The question is.what are you legally bound to do?
Work to the best of your abilities.
make sure you take your breaks, 15 mins for every 4 1/2 hours worked
He has to pay you for the extra time and he has to ensure a safe working environment.
He has to offer you a break.. and if it's overtime, he has to pay you time and a half..

Are you in the US? If so there are both federal and state laws that govern how many breaks you have, your meals etc. If you work a 40 hour work week and you work more than 8 hours in a day you are supposed to be paid at time and a half for every hour over the 8 hours worked in a day, which means you should get paid for 7 hours of overtime at time and a half.
By law 15 hours a day is max for working ..
if u are at at vdu you should have 15 mins break every 2 hours
by law
Legally he can do it.. however you must recieve a lunch break and several other breaks throughout the day.
he could sack you and employ an eastern eu for less(you can't get the english to work our leaders keep telling us that).forget your rights and think yourself lucky you have a job ( you can't do enough for a good boss)
Don't know about other countries but for Scots Law after six hours you must have at least a 15 minutes break, usually given 30 mins.
If you work longer than 17hours a day, it can be dangerous if you are operating machinery etc.
