Is it really worth all the sucking up to get Employee of the Month?

The overtime, the favors, the jaw cramping smiling.

Answer:
Yes, on the whole.

The downside is, this has been scientifically proven to make your colleagues detest you 34% faster than the second-fastest method.** If they hear your footsteps coming to the restroom, they'll use up the last piece of toilet paper, even if they don't need to.

On the bright side, however, you may get your photo in a little plaque in the office reception.

And it's good for your career, too. When your boss does your annual appraisal, you can say:

'Um, I was Employee of the Month in June.'

To which he'll reply:

'We have 'Employee of the Month' here? Really?'

**The second-fastest way is to get promoted, the third-fastest is to bag the cute new Accounts Exec. before they do.
Are there places that still do this??
Only if you get a raise or something.
It's only worth it if you get it because you truly are a good and helping overachiever :-)
trust me. is not. no matter how many times you are eotm its not gonna help you in your next job.
There are companies that still do this, although it may not be called employee of the month, it may be called something else, and it may have to do with how you do your work, how you treat the customers, etc.

It should not be about sucking up, but more about the recognition of your hard work, and how well you interact with your co-workers.
yes, get them enough time and use them to list in your resume to justify a raise. If you just go in and ask for raise, little chance of getting it, slightly better than never asking of course, with justification, it really up the possibilities.
iF YOU THRIVE PON PREISE LIKE i DO THEN ITS EASY AND COMES NATURALY
BUT IF YOU DON'T CARE THEN
WHY DO YOU CARE?
I got it without trying. When I was told I asked "why, what did I do". Apparently it was for doing fill-ins but I always do lots of those anyways. I am a home support worker and often get called to do an extra shift which is from 2-4 hours on average.
Only if they put a picture of me next to the fryolator.
That makes me think of this little retarded guy who works at the grocery store. He is very boylike, and has an enthusiastic shrillness to his voice. One day he was all excited and he was telling everyone who he met how he won "Employee of the Month"! He was REAL excited. You could hear him all over the store. Although it was kinda cute, I thought it really didn't warrant THAT level of excitement.
