Who do I contact when I see a help wanted sign and the Owner or manager tells me the have no opens ?
Answer:
Go to the www.eeoc.gov and report them.
contact your local labor board. also speak with an attorney, but chances are that unless you can prove that you are being disriminated against it wont get you anywhere.
Depends on which country you are. Most countries however have some legislative prohibition on unfair discrimination. I would suggest you contact your closest branch of the Department of Labour, or similar department in your country/province/state.
Ok I think the very first answer was good advice, but I also think it may be a good idea to check into programs where you may be able to get additional education so that you can apply for jobs in many types of work. If you are applying at a business where they need to meet a quota for hiring the handicapped, then they may be more inclined to FIND a job for you because the Gov. offers incentives, to employ you if you are considered "special". Your positive attitude will be impressive to people, are you sure you want to work where the employer does not want you?
Hon, I really like your spirit and attitude, I want you to be employed, and I want you to be happy with your work. Now if the person DOES not want you in the first place, and you force them by the Gov. to hire you, don't you think they may just try to find other reasons to make you miserable so you quit?.or to find faults with you in other ways? I am not trying to be cruel, just realistic. There are plenty of good jobs, where you could use other skills you may have or can acquire instead of working a menial, difficult job that requires you to speak and interact with people who may not understand your paticular differences.
Maybe there are some programs that will help you with grants for education so that you can find a much better job. From what I have been led to understand some smaller employers do not have to even carry Worker's Comp. or to offer their employees any benefits if they only employ a small number of people. They may not be held to the same standards as other larger businesses about the Federal laws, concerning hiring people with a (presumed) disability.
A positive attitude, THAT is NUMBER 1 with MOST employers. As you broaden your knowledge and your abilities, you will find people who will not reject you, they will be glad to have an employee with such a positive attitude, and the will to succeed, YOU will be a productive member of their work force!
Sure, see if the Gov. may help you, but in the meantime see if there are any programs that may help you to increase your employability in many areas!
People didn't want to hire me either, I am a dwarf, I struggled with the regular jobs that teenagers have when they are young. My grandmother said she was willing to match me dollar for dollar my first two years of college, I was grateful to her, I still had to work the jobs that I could find that would hire me, but I found I had skills that more than made up for my "short comings" please forgive that rather bad pun, (I have lived with that one all of my life!). I have worked many different jobs, I aimed my education at trying to be a help to society, and counseling, I studied very hard in school. After I worked for a few years I went back to college and even learned some more. Now I am the short obnoxious "boss" type, and the laugh is on THEM!
It was not an easy road to get here.people still make fun of me when they think I cannot hear them. Now a lot of it is from envy because I am their boss. As you check into educational opportunities to make yourself more employable you will find that some Universities as well as some jobs have to fill a "handicapped"/minority quota.I went to an all black college for a year on a "minority grant" in the South, when it was not a thing that many Southerners approved of! I set my sights higher, and I did what I have to do to get what I wanted. I think you can do the same, maybe better? Go for it! The world is your oyster! Be the best you can be and let them know that you have value!
My VERY best to you, it may not be easy, but you CAN do this!
