If you need money that badly, you're going to not have to be picky and get a job at the mall or in a restaurant. Or try your college's temp office or work study.
Make sure you don't put the job 1st before school, get a part-time job in the mall or a local grocery store.
Many web sites for seeking jobs, monster.com is a good one. Also check newspapers. And get out and knock on doors. Word of mouth though friends is one of the best ways. As the old saying goes "it's not what you know, it's who you know."
This may sound a little insulting but I mean it in a straightforward honest way.
When you apply for a job, make sure you and your clothes are clean and presentable. Dress appropriately. Unless you are applying for a job at a tattoo parlor, hide the tattoos and take off all body jewelry except for perhaps some simple earrings. Chew gum or use mouthwash to have fresh breath. but don't chew gum during an interview!
Show up for any appointments on time. Show an interest in the work that is done there -- ask a question or two to show that you have a brain and you're thinking about the work. Look at the eyes of your interviewer, speak clearly and avoid slang. All documents you bring or fill out should be done with your best grammar and spelling, even if it is a waitress job. (If it comes down to two people and one has good spelling/grammar and the other doesn't, which would you hire?)
On the other hand, don't overdress for a job. If you're applying for the fry chef at McDonald's, you just might be overdoing it with French nails, a suit and pumps. The interviewer might think you were too concerned with your appearance to work at a place like McDonald's.
Bring a current resume with your correct contact information. Have a pen and a notepad on you, in case you have to make notes or fill out forms.
All these things should improve your chances of getting hired.

Networking is a great way to earn money working from your own home/dorm as your own boss. Ever heard of Robert Kiyosaki Rich Dad Poor Dad? He has another book called "The Business School" and he talks a lot about network marketing strategies and getting on the right side of the cash flow quadrant. That's what I did when I started my own business at http://www.bedavis1.mywayout.net/. that is a new division of a billion-dollar international company that is listed on the New York Stock exchange.
