I tried looking for internships (that paid) and found one that I really excelled in. Internships will give you great experience and sometimes can even turn into permanent employment in your new field. And even if it doesn't, it give you experience that you can create your new resume with. Good Luck!
It was timing & networking with the right people for me. After 18 yrs. in the airline business, I made a change due to 9/11 & my co. laid me off. I had 1 contact in oil & gas & they weren't hiring but gave me the names of 2 headhunters. I contaced both, 1 wouldn't give me the time of day, but now that I have 5 yrs. experience they call all the time, go figure. The other gave me a chance & I started entry level, learned & worked my way to where I am 5 yrs. later. Youalso have to be a little creative, market yourself & your skills approriately & someone will take a chance as they did on me. It's all then up to you as to how you succeed after given the opportunity, just as everything in life. Good Luck!
