A part-time job for a Sixteen year old?
Answers:
Of course the money is for a car (that was my dilemma when I was 16). Like many teenagers I got a job at a department store (Lord & Taylor). The pay was better than minimum wage, I got great discounts on clothes and I was able to pay the note on my car and have still have money left over. The incentives were there, but at the end of it all I missed on fun after school activities and parties. Since the work hours were after school (From 6 to 9:30) I came home and I was exhausted. The last thing I wanted to think about was going out. If you feel that you're willing to give those things up then working may be a good option. In terms of department stores (my experiences) Nordstrom always had (and still does) the best pay rates. Another place that's good is Target. My friend's son, upon graduating high school was promoted to a manager and made much better money than any of his friends who worked at other places. If the department store is not your cup of tea, and you feel that you have a good personality, then you may want to try waiting tables. Easiest places to land a job would probably be the small family Greek type owned restaurants. After a little experience you can try for Friday's or other chains where you'll have more traffic and might get better tips.
If you're more adventerous and are willing to learn the trade mabe the town's car machanic will hire you as an apprentice. If you're getting your own car this may eventually prove to be a good networking tool to have. Try staying away from seasonal jobs, like the car wash, because you'll be in trouble when it comes to pay the note and there is no business.
I hope some of these things will get you started...
If you do not have any retail experience, you should start there. If retail is not for you, then you can try applying to places like a Health & Sports Club as a receptionist, or you can get an office job as an assistant to a small company. If you want to make $21k by the end of your senior year, it might be a little difficult if you are not able to work a full time job at your age.
If you do have previous work experience, you can try applying for local law firms that need assistants or real estate firms that is also looking for assistants. Some small companies look for Bookkeepers that do not have prior experience.
You should really start gaining experience and building your resume, this will help you get a higher salary.
when i was you r age and i wanted a car and of course you need gas. I got a job as a waitress. I made tips every nite so i always had money in my pocket and i also got a pay check every week. When i got my car.. well like i said i always had money so on my days off..shop shop shop.
