Hi you are like me, I was a PA/secretary for 17 years and now work at home as a virtual assistant (independent contractor offering admin/secretarial/transcribing services for lots of different businesses). A lot of small businesses prefer to use contractors as the don't have to bother employing staff and can't justify full time staff anyway. I also work with a transcription company (so many only use home based typists). I get to be with my children and I don't lose my skills either. Win win!!

The problem with executive assistant and secretarial positions is that most executives want you right where they can easily interact with you. This is the value of the executive assistant--she/he is the gatekeeper and ensures that the exec works as effectively as possible. I don't see how that can be done from home, unless you happen to be in a company where the boss also works from home and is never in the office.
The best way to approach this is to apply for regular positions and judge via the interview and the circumstances of the work, whether there is a future possibility of working from home. Most people with excellent work-from-home jobs got them by taking an in-office job and after proving their value to the organization, asking to work from home.
