Should I change career?

Been a nail technician for the last 11yrs and have become disillusioned with the market place. Everyone just wants cheap as you can get nails from these foreign nail bars where they don't speak English and wreck your nails with a drill. Nobody appears to be interested in quality. Should I go back to an office job and after 11yrs is anyone going to employ me outside of Tesco's?.
Think Im having a mid life crisis

Answer:
Hi space fairy,
I wish i could find someone like you to do my nails! I had mine done once at one of those foreign nail bars, they distroyed my nails with their drill and ruined my nails. Took ages to get them back to normal.
I think you should stay in your career, and advertise that you do nails properly, do this by leaflet dropping in peoples homes, or hand them out on the street. I am sure that their are loads of women out there that have had a bad experience and are desperate to have them done by someone like you.

Maybe you could do a special promotion and offer a discount, or a free something or other?

Good luck with what ever you choose. x
A change could do you good. A little change is a great way to spice up your life. You may find another kind of job that you might like more than an office job; for example, waitressing, working in an animal clinic, working for a unionized grocery store, etc. Good luck!
yes you are right everyone wants cheap nails but find a niche or an offer to get clients back i had my nails done at one of these bars and i had to soak the nail off straight away as they had filed to much off and it was painful keep your head up of course people wil hire you. you could do customer services or something like that as you have 11 years dealing and interacting with alsorts of people or you could take an evening class to help you become more employable or retrain so many options don't fret
Get out ther with your leaflets and advertising, go to new areas, do a home service or group party service offering the host a discount or what ever. Go to people who care. go tolunch time office clients. See if you can get another line of products (hand creams maybe) to sell to your existing clientel when you see them there must be loads you can do. Try lowering your prices a little have discount days.

Well I tried!

Is there another service you can provide in addition to manicures/pedicures? Look into adding other services to what you provide. Do you work for yourself? If you can seek training for a new skill, work around your training schedule.
Advertise how you are 'different' from all of the other places. Is it possible for you to go to different places and give this service rather than them coming to you?
After 11 years, I think you are ready for a change, but not necessarily a total job change. Find something to 'refresh' what you are doing now to make it more exciting.
Best Wishes!
Haha, you said nail "technician" and I tot U meant nail carpenter or someone who hammers nails. U mean manicurist, right.
Seriously, it may be quite a drastic change to move from recreational/beauty industry to office job. Since you are familiar with internet and nails business is a niche, you could start an information website all about nails, manicure, pedicure etc. Earn affiliate commissions from selling nail/beauty products. Some domain names like www.thenailgal.com www.knowyournails.com are available. www.gogetnailed.com is also available but is crude.
Keep your nail technician day job and spend free time on your website.
I was in Beauty Business for a long time but eventually gets you down, between the clients and colleagues. I had no trouble get work else where once I didn't mind being retrained. It was a good more for me. I then went back to college to do Adults in continuing Education, I'm working now in community. Much more rewarding and satisfying.
lol no your fine! it is your choice! but i'm sure you can find another job! if your outgoing and self motivational go into radio sales ! lots of money there!
you just have to look and have a postive out look by using postive words! don't use well i'm stuck here or only tesco's will employe me because with that thinking pattern that's all your opening up for yourself so yo uwould be correct! however if you start thinking any job would be great to have me on there team! and you beleive that then the world is your play ground!
go have fun!
Mad luv
