Accountants out there?

Do some accountants get paid on an hourly basis. Can you choose to get paid on an hourly basis? With all of the hours that they put in wouldn't it be better that way.

Answer:
Bookkeepers might get paid on an hourly basis but not degreed accountants, usually. All of the hours they put in is so that they can get promoted.
Accounting firms get paid by the hour. Accountants who work for the firm get salaries with no overtime, and boy is there a lot of overtime. So the answer is no if you are an employee.
My accountant charges a flat rate per year
I actually work for a small firm in the New York. We do tax work and audits. We get paid a salary. However, unlike most firms we do get paid overtime. Usuallly we have minimum requirments for billable hours per month. However if we do go over our required hours, we are eligible for overtime with proper approval from a partner. We have to submit monthly overtime sheets with approval along with our regular time sheet.
