Anyone Work in PR?

I've asked this question before, but only received job descriptions. While appreciated, I was really interested in what people's personal experiences have been in this field. Do you or did you at one time work in Public Relations? For what company or type of company (non-profit, etc.). What were your likes and dislikes. Did you ever have to do something for your job that went against your personal principles (lie, or gloss over a known and important truth)? What are wages and benefits like for you? Please be as detailed as possible, I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Answer:
I worked as PR exec for a nonprofit organization for 2 years. I can honestly say I loved it! It was actually a lot of fun. there were a lot of parties to go to, events to set up for publicity (like runs, food drives, charity balls, etc) and I made a lot of really great professional contacts.

It's not all fun though. It's a lot of in-office stuff, like writing a ton of press releases, being on the phone a lot trying to coordinate events, etc. I also was in charge of a newsletter for our alum, and sometimes that was difficult getting everyone to submit their stuff to me by the deadline.

The wages were pretty good. Going in with 4 years PR experience I started around $55,000 and had full benefits, plus a ton of little perks like parties and a company cruise. 2 years later I was making over $60K. Your wages and benefits will depend on the company.

Overall, it's a good career to be in. I only left because I got a better offer somewhere else. Other Questions and Answers:
