What kind of associates degree would be worth the time and money?

Anything to do with computers and programming. There are a lot of high paying jobs in that field right now that only require an associates degree.
That is a very braod question. There are dozen of Associate degrees that can get you a great job including Physical Therapy types, medical billing, EMT, etc. I suggest contacting your local JC and talk to them about what programs they offer specifically. I have my AA in business and have a job as an accountant, so it's up to you what your interests are
You might consider health care. Radiology Tech is a two year course and the pay starts out at $20/hour and more. My wife just finished and she was hired at $26/hour.
X-Ray tech
If you like working outside and have a long growing season try landscaping, gardening, horticulture or turf management. You can wear jeans, stay in good condition and make big bucks if you're good.
