What to do about education?
I have a degree already, but I'm not able to use it. I work in the banking industry, and a friend of mine told me that I should go back to be an accountant. She is an accountant, and she made twice as much as I do when she first started out. Now she makes 4 times what I make. I figured out that with my credit from my first degree, and with my work schedule, it will take me 4 years to get a second bachelor's degree.
However, another friend of mine told me that I should go into the computer field, most notably, computer networking. With networking, it will only take me two years to complete, but it would be with an associates degree. I've done some research though, and I've found that networkers don't have constant pay and the it's hard for a networker to find a job.
So I love computers and with networking, I can be out of school sooner. However, with accounting, I would be in school longer, but there are more jobs.
Any advice?
Answer:
I'm in computers and it's a tough field. I have a Master's degree and it took me three years to get a job that frankly doesn't pay well. I interviewed for one position and was told they had several hundred qualified candidates and were interviewing thirty. The field is flooded.
You could try and find something that will allow you to combine fields. I know the university I attended offered an MBA program with an IT track. There may be some way to take more computer classes that would count toward the accounting degree
Get started, if you don't start you don't finish
It depends on what you would be happier doing. Either one you are going to be able to find a lot of jobs. I wouldn't go into accounting if it's not something I would be happy doing and be proud of.
