I'm a stripper and people are surprised that I have a bachelor's degree. Why?

Answer:
one word.stereotyping.

People assume that strippers are drug addicted, uneducated women. It is unfortunate that this world works that way but until we all decide to change that, you will be stereotyped.
It's the nature of the beast, we assume.
I think it's more the other way around: People are surprised that you have a Bachelor's degree and that you ARE a Stripper.
Probably because you tell them about being a stripper first. People don't want to think harder than they have to as a general rule, and are ready to drop somebody in a pre-made pigeonhole if it's easier.
Who cares! Be proud. Congrats. They're just jealous.
some people regard strippers as being dumb because of their job.
I don't assume that but I have a soft place in my heart for dancers because of friends and past experiences but with that said you cant really wonder WHY people would be surprised? I'm a banker and it doesn't make sense that i suck at math but it wouldnt boggle me that others would be surprised by that.
what a waste of a degree. or did the degree not enable you to earn enough to support your bad habits?
People assume that people become strippers because they are unable to find any other job. Also, it is assumed that they make little money.
Because you are not using your degree. People think of strippers as non-educated women. Like someone who used to work in retail. a friend of mine used to know a former employee at Baskin-Robbins. She hated working there like me. She never bothered going to school to get an education. So, one day , he went into her club and saw her strip tease. She must of said hi to him. He told me about this and he hoped that one day, I don't end up working there.
They all say they are working their way through school; you're the 1st I've heard that actually did it.

A smart, successful stripper could conceivably retire in her early 30's - good for you!
Because people think that a degree is supposed to help you start a career and most people don't strip when they have a degree of some sort. If you like stripping and it's what you do best then do it regardless of what people say or think.
It's the same thing with people associating hookers and strippers. Most strippers are not hookers, but most hookers are strippers. I'm a go go dancer for hire and people often times think I'm a stripper.
Also it's probably the other way around. Why are you a stripper if you have a bachelors degree?
Why are you even asking such a thing.the only thing that shocks people are the fact you make your living off men shoving money into your underwear and dancing provacatively. People are shocked that you would have paid for school with a respectable job instead of dancing in a sleazy club to put yourself through school. The money may sound good and all, but I wouldnt sacrifice my self respect for a college degree. I got my bachelors and got it the old fashioned way and worked two jobs for it. You're asking why people are shocked when the majority of strippers don't really like what they do. Here's my question to you how come you havent moved on to a more dignified and respectable means of employment instead of staying on a job where men get turned on at the idea of putting a $20 in your underwear for you to dance sleazy.
people think low of strippers and look down on them thats why.
